Location
Kenya lies across the equator on the East Coast of Africa.
It borders Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan to the North,
Uganda to the west, Tanzania to the South and the Indian
Ocean to the East.

Administrative Divisions
Eight Provinces including the Nairobi area. Provinces
are: Central, Coast, Eastern, Nyanza, Rift Valley, Western
and North Eastern. These provinces are divided into
administrative areas known as districts.
Capital City:
Nairobi; population approximately 3.2 million.
Major Towns:
Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret, Nyeri, Kitale, Malindi,
Kakamega, Machakos, Embu, Garissa, Nyahururu
National Language:
Kiswahili. Other 42 ethnic languages are also spoken
in Kenya.

Climate
Pleasant and favorable with plenty of sunshine all year
round. Rainfall is sometimes heavy around April to May
while some areas are more cloudy though without much
rain around July/August.

Independence Day:
December 12, 1963 (Jamhuri Day) - independence from
British colonial rule.
Politics and Government:
Democratic Government with Political Pluralism. The
President is the Head of State and Government. The Constitution
is the supreme law of the State. It establishes and
determines the composition, powers and duties of the
main organs of government namely the executive, the
legislature and the judiciary.
Religion
40 % Protestant, 30 % Roman Catholic, 6 % Muslim, 23%
other religions.

Crude oil, transport equipment, chemicals, pharmaceutical
and medical equipment, industrial machinery and
other capital equipment. |
Main exports:
Tea, coffee, horticulture, petroleum products,
cement, soda ash and pyrethrum extracts.

Please note that Idd-ul-Fitr is a national holiday
in Kenya and the date is dependent on the sighting of
the moon based on the Islamic calendar.
Kenya has more than 30 or so daily, weekly, monthly,
bi-monthly, quarterly newspapers, magazines and journals
that are published locally by various media houses and
alternative press. Majority of these are printed in
English language. However, there are also a few which
are printed in Kiswahili –Kenya’s national
