5TH SESSION OF EGYPT/KENYA JOINT COMMISSION FOR COOPERATION. JANUARY 20TH - 21ST 2010

The Fifth session of the Joint Commission was held in Cairo from 20th - 21st January, 2010. Hon. Richard Onyonka, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs led the Kenya delegation to the bilateral meeting while Ambassador Mona Omar, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs of Egypt led the Egyptian Side.

Both leaders of delegation emphasized the need to further strengthen the bilateral relations especially in the areas of Foreign Affairs, Security, Trade and Economic Cooperation as well as Education and Social Affairs.

The Agreements that were finalized and ready for signing included those in the fields of Fisheries, Cooperation in Higher Education Science and Technology and that in the field of Libraries. Others were, in Investment and Revenue Authority, In Youth Affairs and the Executive Programme on Educational, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation for the years 2010 - 2013. It was agreed that the Agreements will be signed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries on the margins of The AU summit in Addis Ababa in January, 2010.

The two countries further agreed to establish a Focal point within the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Embassies of the two countries in order to ensure the necessary mechanisms were put in place within agreed time frames to follow up the bilateral cooperation decisions and proposals made during JCC meetings. Both sides also encouraged Business Communities in both countries to establish a Joint Business Forum with the aim to boost and accelerate the bilateral economic relations and explore investment opportunities in both countries.
